November, 2005
All summer the gardens were tended by GPIP volunteers Carolyn Wynn, Lisa Olson, and Della Winans on a weekly rotation. They, along with Pia Hutchinson, met in mid-November to put the gardens to bed. They removed the annuals and cut back the perennials in preparation for the winter. It was interesting to see that some of the annuals that students at Gideon Welles School had grown for the garden were still blooming at that time, namely feverfew and flowering tobacco. We hope to continue this partnership with Gideon Welles School students next year.
Fall, 2004
In May of 2004, Glastonbury Partners in Planting Inc. "partnered"
with The Glastonbury branch of A. G. Edwards & Sons, Inc. to
redesign and renovate the Main Street gardens at the library.
GPIP members designed the gardens, ordered plants, and arranged
for the bluestone on the patio to be reset. A. G. Edwards
donated $3,000 to fund this project and A. G. Edwards employees
donated their time to install the gardens. This was our first
corporate "Partnership", a great success!
In the fall of 2004, Welles-Turner Library purchased and
installed furniture on the patio. GPIP members planted spring
bulbs. All are welcome to bring their lunch or snacks and enjoy
the new gardens!
