Planting on April 16, 2005

Eleven Glastonbury Partners in Planting volunteers gathered at the Town Tree Nursery to plant fifty five new bare-root trees. The trees arrived by truck in March and have been heeled-in in a bark pile at a local nursery until the Town Nursery land dried enough for planting. Of the fifty five trees, twenty were purchased by the Town using its tree budget, and thirty five were purchased by GPIP using funds from a grant from the George H.C. Ensworth Memorial Fund.

The many hands made for quick work, and all fifty five trees were planted in two and a half hours. GPIP volunteers will be watering the trees throughout the spring and summer. These fifty five new arrivals join eighty two trees planted in 2004 or 2003, and will be joined by fifteen new Valley Forge Elms later this spring.

We planted the following varieties and quantities:
Maple "Red Sunset" (Acer rubrum) 5
Sugar Maple "Magesty" (Acer saccharum) 5
Hawthorne "Winter King" (Crategus viridis Winter King) 5
London Planetree "Bloodgood" (Platanus x acerifolia Bloodgood) 5
Golden Rain Tree (Koelreuteria paniculata) 10
Crabapple "Sugar Tyme" (Malus x Sugar tyme) 5
Pin Oak (Quercus palustris) 5
White Oak (Quercus alba) 10
Katsura Tree (Cercidiphyllum Japonicum) 5
