Grant Award (1-4-05)
Late in December, GPIP received some great news! The George H.C. Ensworth Memorial Fund awarded us a $2,000 grant to purchase plants and conduct educational programs. So far, with these funds, we have ordered forty-five trees. When they arrive this spring, GPIP volunteers will plant them in the Town Tree Nursery. After growing in the nursery for two to three years, they will be ready for Town planting projects around Glastonbury.

GPIP Receives Non-Profit Status (6-24-04)
In a letter from the IRS received today, Partners in Planting received notification that the IRS has approved our non-profit status!

"Because you are a newly created organization, we are not now making a final determination of your foundation status under section 509 (a) of the Code. However, we have determined that you can reasonably expect to be a publicly supported organization described in sections 509 (a) (1) and 170 (b) (1) (A) (vi). Accordingly, during an advance ruling period you will be treated as a publicly supported organization, and not as a private foundation. This advance ruling period begins and ends on the dates shown. Advance ruling period begins: 8/28/2003 and ends 12/31/2007."
This represents a major step forward for GPIP as it enables us to apply for grants and other special funds available only to non-profit organizations. It also means that your donations to GPIP are now tax deductable.
